Subject: SFC/SNES Serial Codes Last Updated: 20100526 Mission Zapatabase seeks to record the proper names, sizes, and hashes of licensed, commercially released game data. Naming Rules 1. Since neither packaging nor title screens are wholly dependable sources from which to derive accurate names, names will be derived from whichever is the most descriptive of the two. In the event of a contradiction, the name on the title screen will be used. 2. Punctuation such as colons or commas not present in the title, but grammatically inferred, will be included. 3. Characters not allowed in filenames will be substituted with a hyphen. 4. Acronyms which are spelled out will be omitted in favor of the words. 5. Endorsements or signatures on the box or label that do not appear on the title screen will be omitted. 6. Words presented in all capital letters will only have the first letter capitalized unless they are acronyms. 7. Letters made larger than others in a fully capitalized word will remain capitalized. 8. Articles and prepositions will never be capitilized unless they are at the beginning of the main title or subtitle, are part of a nickname, or are more than four letters in length. 9. Articles at the beginning of a main title will be moved to the end of the title, separated by a comma and a space. 10. Two words that leave no distinguishable space between them will be treated as one word. 11. Each file name will be appended with the game's television system (if applicable) enclosed in parantheses. Multiple television systems will be listed in alphabetical order and connected with an ampersand. 12. Each file name will be appended with its languages enclosed in parentheses. A language will be denoted by the first three letters of the language. Multiple languages will be listed in alphabetical order and connected with an ampersand. 13. Each file name will be appended with its revision or version number. 14. If the previous three rules fail to differentiate two files, a numerical assignment will be appended. 15. If the same data was used in multiple regions, but displayed a different title screen depending on the regional BIOS on which it was played, then all titles will be included in the name, alphabetically ordered and separated with a spaced tilde. The following example shows how this will be implemented: Verification Requirements All submissions must have the following information to be accepted: 1. The dumper's username. 2. The dump's name, size, and hash. 3. Clear scans of the cartridge label and circuit board. FitzRoy is the sole recorder of all submitted information. |
